Geisha - Japanese Woodblock Print

This print is actually called 'Bijin,' which translates as "Pretty Girl".

The name of the artist is Hosoda Eishi (1756- 1829).  Hosoda is interesting because all his male family members were, other than he, that is, famous and infamous Samurai.  He was considered quite the scandalous character, actually, because his primary focus, rather than painting his family members, was on painting pretty girls, instead!

This is an old print of a Japanese prostitute on rice paper. The print is in very good condition, with no staining or foxing, no rips or tears. The frame is rough.

Print image size - 8 1/8" wide x 11 7/8 " high. Frame size - 15 1/2 " wide x 19 1/2" high.

Due to the subject matter, style and age of this print, we estimate that this piece would bring at auction $100.00 to $250.00.
